Upcoming Protocol v25 Upgrade: New Privacy-Preserving Capabilities
Pi is scheduled to upgrade to Protocol v25 on Wednesday, July 22. The upgrade primarily focuses on improving network stability and reliability, while also adding new capabilities for more efficient, privacy-preserving smart contracts.
Protocol v25 introduces BN254 cryptography and Poseidon hashing, two technical building blocks that enable developers to build modern zero-knowledge applications. These capabilities allow an application to verify that a claim or piece of information is valid while preserving user privacy, supporting use cases such as identity verification and other forms of proof verification.
For example, a user could prove that an identity or eligibility requirement has been met without sharing all of the underlying personal information with an app.
Before Protocol v25, these types of applications were much more difficult to build.
If you haven’t already, remember to upgrade your Node to v25 at your earliest convenience to remain connected to the network. Stay tuned for the v26 upgrade as well. Learn more here.
Updated Side Menu and App Profile Page: A First Step Toward a Refreshed Mining App Experience
Pi has updated the design of the side menu and app profile page in the Pi mining app, making important Pioneer information and ecosystem features easier to find, understand, and navigate. This is the start of a move toward a broader, iterative refresh of the Pi mining app and home screen.
Your feedback has been heard: Pioneers have shared that the mining app has been operating well, but it’s time for a new look and improved experience. This update is Pi’s response, and it’s just the first step.
The Pi mining app is one of the most important interfaces in the Pi ecosystem, it has supported the growth of this community to over 60 million engaged Pioneers who know what to expect when they mine Pi every day. Because it plays such a central role, changes to its design and user experience must be introduced thoughtfully and iteratively, not all at once. The goal is to improve clarity, style and usability while maintaining the core functionalities that have been working and continuing to learn from Pioneers’ feedback.
The renewed side menu now presents key information and ecosystem components in a clearer, more organized format, with better UI style and visual hierarchy throughout. Pioneers can more easily view items such as the Mainnet Checklist, mining information, featured Pi Apps, and other important parts of the Pi experience in one place.
Dark mode has also been added, addressing a feature that many Pioneers have requested.
To check out the update, tap the hamburger (☰) icon in the top left of the Pi mining app. As this refreshed experience continues to develop, Pioneer feedback will help inform future improvements.
What do you think of the new design, and what do you want to see next? Leave your feedback here, which will help shape the next steps of this important refresh.
Fast-Track Mainnet Wallet Creation Update
Since Fast Track KYC is available to help Pioneers complete the identity verification needed to create a Mainnet Wallet directly within the Pi app experience, Pi is removing Banxa from the app UI as an in-app option for Mainnet Wallet creation.
Banxa remains a KYB-verified third-party service, and Pi remains available through Banxa where supported. Pioneers may still use Banxa as a third-party option where available.
