The Pi Node version 0.6.2 has been released, introducing improvements to SoloHost, Node connectivity, and the Pi Desktop user experience.
In parallel, Pi has successfully completed a distributed computing test through a SoloHost app, further advancing the utility of Pi Nodes beyond supporting the Pi blockchain.
Pi Node 0.6.2 Release
Node version 0.6.2 includes the following updates:
- Automatic Port Configuration with UPnP and New Port Checker: Version 0.6.2 introduces UPnP support that helps users automatically open the ports needed for Node connectivity on supported routers that enable local device connectivity. Previously, Node operators, or users of SoloHost apps such as local AI agents, would need to manually configure ports through their routers, which can be a technically challenging process for some users. Along with a new port checker container, this update simplifies the setup required for local device connectivity, such as connectivity between Pioneer’s mobile devices and apps running on their Node.
- Support for Unlisted SoloHost Apps: Pioneers can now choose to run SoloHost apps that are unlisted based on their own assessment, providing more flexibility for app developers in app testing and reachability when their apps are not yet publicly listed in SoloHost.
- SoloHost App Status Management: Developers can now manage SoloHost apps across three states: draft, unlisted, and listed. This provides greater control over an app’s visibility and stage before or after public listing.
- SoloHost App State Tracking Fix: Version 0.6.2 resolves a UI issue for users running SoloHost apps where, after starting an app, navigating elsewhere in Pi Desktop and returning could cause the app’s status to be displayed incorrectly. The update improves how the interface tracks and reflects the app’s current state.
- Correct App Tab Navigation: Pi Desktop now correctly switches to the App tab after a SoloHost app has finished installing and starts running, rather than switching while the app is still starting up.
- Additional Featured SoloHost Apps: While an unlisted SoloHost app for distributed computing completed testing that is detailed below, two additional SoloHost apps, mcp-atlassian and OpenClaw, are being added to the featured section alongside Hermes.
These updates make the Node and SoloHost experience easier, more flexible, and more reliable. By simplifying local connectivity, improving app management, and supporting more flexible app development and testing, Node 0.6.2 continues strengthening the foundation for applications running on Pi Nodes, including AI agents and other locally hosted services.
Distributed Computing Test through a SoloHost App
Along with the new Node 0.6.2 release, Pi has now completed an initial distributed computing functionality test through SoloHost with five volunteer Node runners.
The devices operated by all five participants successfully completed the computing tasks sent to them automatically through a SoloHost app. The test validated the end-to-end flow of tasks across real devices, including connecting to a Pi coordinator, receiving and processing computing jobs, and reporting results back.
SoloHost was released in beta on Pi2Day 2026 as an open, permissionless framework in Pi Desktop where developers can build and list self-hosted apps and Node utilities that Pioneers can run on their own computers. The initial release supported locally-run apps such as AI agents, while Pi continued to make progress in enabling distributed computing applications that make use of available Node resources.
This distributed computing work builds on the previous proof-of-concept project that explored the capability of Pi’s global network of over 420,000 Nodes to support decentralized AI training and computing tasks. Through SoloHost, the project further automates, scales and completes the functionalities into a real app intended to provide production-level utility for third-party clients. Participating Nodes can be compensated by the third-party clients in Pi, in return for turning available computing capacity into a resource for real applications.
By helping suitable applications access available Node resources, SoloHost and apps listed there can turn Pi Nodes into a practical computing layer for AI-related applications and other compute-intensive workloads, while giving Pioneers a way to benefit from and contribute directly to these new production processes through the computers they already operate.
