Since Pi Day 2026, Pi Network has continued its gradual rollout of second migrations, opening the door for Pioneers to bring additional Pi to Mainnet and further participate in the ecosystem. This means that Pioneers who’ve already migrated their Pi balance once may now be eligible to migrate their second transferable Pi balance.
As stated in the Mainnet migrations roadmap, second migrations will include referral mining bonuses attributable to Referral Team members who fully passed KYC. Pioneers should therefore remind their Referral Teams to complete KYC so these bonuses can be migrated.
Since its release, over 119,000 Pioneers have completed second migrations of their transferable balances, including their referral mining bonuses, as the gradual rollout continues.
While second migrations roll out, first migrations for eligible Pioneers will continue as normal. Note that second migrations do not compromise the speed and throughput of first migrations. Furthermore, first migrations still take priority for the network to complete. Pioneers who still need to complete their first migrations are not affected by others’ second migrations.
Second migrations required extensive technical preparations due to the complexity in computing referral bonuses, which incorporate Referral Team members’ KYC statuses and vary per mining session for each individual. In addition, this work impacts mining rewards distributed through blockchain transactions, and thus requires more caution and a rigorous review and test process to ensure accuracy and fairness. The successful completion of this effort is a significant milestone, unblocking the long-anticipated second migrations for the community.
Second migrations also come at a time when Pioneers can use Pi in increasingly diverse ways. From the Pi Launchpad, which is currently on Testnet, to the release of Mainnet functionality for Pi App Studio apps on Pi Day 2026, new products and features continue to expand Pi’s real-world utility and use cases.
Before becoming eligible for either first or second migrations, Pioneers must complete Pi Wallet two-factor authentication (2FA) through Step 3 of the Mainnet Checklist.
This step is required for migrations to further strengthen account and wallet security before real Pi is transferred to their wallet, an irreversible and immutable transaction on the blockchain. To complete 2FA, Pioneers may also need to add a trusted email address to their accounts if one has not been set up yet.
Once the network has successfully completed first and second migrations for the current queue of Pioneers, Pi will begin ongoing periodic migrations with frequency to be determined.
