Pi App Studio is kicking off 2026 with a community-wide creator event combined with new updates that support easy Pi payment integration for continued utility creation and expand access to app creation. These changes are designed to help more Pioneers experiment, iterate, and create useful apps that boost Pi utility.
The first update is the ability for Pioneers to easily integrate Pi payments into their apps through the App Studio without coding or other technical work. These payments are currently limited to Test-Pi. The second update is a new option that allows Pioneers to deploy app iterations without paying Pi by watching ads. This allows new and non-migrated Pioneers, plus those who do not want to spend Pi, to participate in app creation through the App Studio. Note that these ads do not cover the actual cost of deploying an app on Pi App studio, but rather expands accessibility for creators and lowers costs for app iterations while preventing spamming and exploitation.
Together, these efforts broaden access to Pi App Studio, encourage active usage, and help Pi cryptocurrency integrate into app experiences within the Pi ecosystem.
App Creation Event and Survey Feedback
The event invites Pioneers to share feedback and highlight their favorite App Studio apps that they consider to be useful through a short survey. The first 1,000 qualified responses will enable the respondent to receive 5 Pi credits that can be used exclusively within Pi App Studio for app creation and customization. Spam responses will not qualify.
Since each AI-generated iteration and deployment onto servers in the App Studio costs Pi, this credit is meant to remove the friction of the costs of experimentation. It also encourages Pioneers to try creating apps themselves or iterate on their existing ones further, since the App Studio is meant for non-technical people to create and run apps.
Feedback collected through the survey will be used to guide future improvements to App Studio features and tools.

Easy Payments Integration in App Studio Apps
Pi App Studio now supports in-app payment integration—initially using Test-Pi—which helps enable App Studio apps to contribute to Pi’s utility through integrating Pi payments in their app experiences. Pi payment integration normally requires time and technical expertise from developers. Even with the recent developer library that reduces technical integration time to 10 minutes, integrating payments into Pi apps still requires the knowledge and technical skills to complete for developers. Pi App Studio wrapped all of the complexity of Pi payments integration into simple, non-technical and interactive steps in its app creation workflows for creators, enabling them to benefit from Pi payments integration just like developers can.
This marks an important step toward not only enabling non-technical people to create and own functional apps, but also generating creator monetization incentives and fostering sustainable business models for App Studio apps. This would encourage more people to be app creators and make app creation sustainable.
With the current version of the feature, creators can add Test-Pi payment interactions that apply during a single active session (while the app is in use), such as purchasing items and unlocking extra in-app features and advantages. A single “session” refers to one self-contained instance of activity in an app, such as a round, task, or experience.
To integrate payments, Pioneers should first create a new custom app in the App Studio in the Pi Browser, not the Pi Desktop app. After the app is created, tap the “Customize App With Pi AI button” and specifically mention the words “Pi payment” in the prompt. Although this initial version does not yet support persistent purchases across sessions, meaning purchases won’t be saved if a user leaves and comes back, it establishes the foundation for richer app creation opportunities and prepares creators for Mainnet-enabled payments.
Ad-Supported App Creation in Pi App Studio
Pioneers can now deploy their app iterations in Pi App Studio without having to pay Pi, by watching ads. This option enables more Pioneers—especially those who are not yet Mainnet-migrated and are unable to pay Pi—to experiment, learn, and create apps without being limited by migration status or Pi balance. The feature will be available if Pioneers have a balance in the App Studio that goes below 0.25 Pi.
Note that ad revenue generated by this feature does not cover (not even on the same magnitude) the cost of app-generation and deployment in the App Studio, including API costs and server costs. This approach is intentionally designed to subsidize app creation costs in App Studio to broaden access and increase creation participation, while preventing spamming and exploitation of the platform. This feature, as a subsidy measure to lower cost for creators and support ecosystem growth, is therefore subject to change or cancellation in the future depending on if it can be economically sustainable.
